Hey, Michael Moore! Clinton, Gore and Kerry Lost the 'White Vote,' Too

"White America does not like having a black president."

Thus pronounced Michael Moore in an appearance on "Real Time with Bill Maher." And Maher agreed, "That is the truth."

"The statistics don't lie," Moore plowed ahead. "I'm not talking about polls. I'm talking about that the young people in '08 was the only -- do you know this? -- it's the only demographic -- white demographic -- that Obama won, 18- to 29-year-olds. Every other demographic, over 29, Obama lost the white vote. Every single one."

Crime solved. Case closed. Book 'em, Danno. Except for one minor detail: No Democratic presidential candidate has won the "white vote" since 1964.

Add Obama's name to a long list of white Democrats who lost that demographic: Humphrey in 1968; McGovern in 1972; Carter in 1976 and 1980; Mondale in 1984; Dukakis in 1988; Clinton in 1992 and 1996; Gore in 2000.

In fact, white voters preferred Obama to Sen. John Kerry -- who lost the white vote by 17 points in 2004, while Obama lost it in 2008 by "only" 12 points. Obama improved on Kerry's share of the white vote in every age demographic, including the 18- to 29-year-olds (which Kerry lost).

Did "white America" temporarily forget Obama's skin color, only to remember just in time for the midterm elections? This, perhaps, explains why Obama's approval rating, post election, shot up to over 70 percent before coming down.

Obama's approval rating now stands at the low- to mid-40s. So, presumably, "white America" reverted back to its historical racism. But how does Moore explain whites like Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, with an approval rating at less than 30 percent, and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid at 25 percent?

If "white America" dislikes having a black president, why does "white America" -- in the South, no less -- tolerate a black congressperson?

Allen West, a black Republican former lieutenant colonel, won Florida's 22nd Congressional District. Its racial demographics are 82.3 percent white, 3.8 percent black, 1.7 percent Asian, 10.7 percent Hispanic, 0.1 percent Native American and 0.2 percent other.

Tim Scott, a black Republican candidate, won South Carolina's 1st Congressional District. Its racial demographics are 74.8 percent white, 21.1 percent black, 1.3 percent Asian, 2.5 percent Hispanic, 0.4 percent Native American and 0.2 percent other.

Worse, Scott was backed by what the NAACP calls the "racist" tea party! The civil rights organization commissioned a study that purported to unmask the tea party's racism. But NAACP CEO Ben Jealous encountered unexpected skepticism when he appeared on Anderson Cooper's CNN show.

Cooper asked why the NAACP selected a "clearly left-wing group -- which is opposed to the tea party" -- to conduct the study. He said the report "does seem to use a lot of innuendo and a lot of guilt by association." Cooper played a montage of video clips showing prominent Democrats -- from the President on down -- campaigning with the mantra that it's time to "take our country back!" "Why is it when Democrats say 'take our country back,'" said Cooper, "no one says that's extreme nationalism, but when tea party supporters say it, it's ominous and racism in disguise?" Jealous stammered, stumbled and fumbled. Painful to watch.

Actor/producer/director Rob Reiner says the Tim Scott-supporting tea party is not merely racist. It is also fascist. In an appearance on Bill Maher's show, Reiner worried whether a Hitler-like charismatic leader might emerge to lead the party:

Reiner: You never get into a political discussion unless you bring the word Hitler in. You have to have Hitler, so let's put Hitler out there. Here's Hitler, OK? You have bad economic times, right? Hitler, by the way, never got more than 33 percent of the vote ever in Germany. You have bad economic times--

Maher: Well, he only had that one election, let's be honest. ... There was no 1937 election.

Reiner: He wasn't a majority guy, but he was charismatic and they were having bad economic times, just like we are now. People were out of work. They needed jobs, and a guy came along and rallied the troops. My fear is that the tea party gets a charismatic leader, because all they're selling is fear and anger, and that's all Hitler sold."

Not a "majority guy"? President Bill Clinton not only twice lost the white vote but also, like Hitler, never won the majority of the electorate -- 43 percent in 1992 and 49 percent in 1996. And the point is? Well, there is no point -- at least none one might call coherent.

A 2008 Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll asked likely voters whether they would refuse to vote for a black presidential candidate. Only 4 percent said yes -- a smaller number than would refuse to vote for a woman or a Mormon.

It's not about race. The reality is simple, if less comforting to Mr. Moore. "White America" does not even like voting for a white president -- if he is a Democrat.

Lots of people are outraged. That's how the cookie crumbles when you open up the phone lines to vote or to answer a poll question. That's how most of these entertainment shows operate. The contestants know this going in and at the end of the day all the money goes to charity.

I suppose if people don't like how the show operates then perhaps they should stop participating. Personally, I think it's cool that Bristol knows she's not the greatest dancer in the world yet she continues to persevere. Most people who come on the show have no clue when it comes to dance. That's the entire intrigue of the show. THAT and to see how the votes are going to tally up.

You don't think the producers knew what they were getting themselves into by inviting Bristol Palin to the show? Of course they did. That's why she was invited to participate. Even so, she is doing the show to the best of her ability. Could care less about her famous mother OR that she was a pregnant teenager. Rush Limbaugh is simply responding to all the MSNBS's, C-BS's and Huffington Chokes Folks that want to politicize the Palin name on a true entertainment program.

If people are THAT outraged by this then they should quit their bitching and pick up the phone and vote against her. They would have if they truly cared about Brandy's outstanding dance technique. In the meantime, Bristol Palin's perseverance, knowing that she's not the best at what she is doing on that show should be commended. Where would any of us be if we gave up just because someone said that we sucked at something?

I can't believe all the Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin, Palin Family haters out there. Tonight I decided to take a look and see if Bristol Palin has a Facebook page. She does. So I hopped on over and "Liked" it.

Don't let the haters get you down Bristol. Keep up the good work!

Bristol Palin Hater Drama


Do you realize today how miserable the American left is over Bristol Palin making the finals of Dancing With the Stars? They're miserable because -- well, stop and think about it, Snerdley. Half of the reason that you make the finals on this show is because the public votes. Now, Bristol Palin and her partner have gotten the lowest scores every week of any of the contestants, and yet they are in the finals. And the reason they're in the finals is 'cause America is voting for Bristol Palin, and the left is miserable. They are fit to be tied over this. You ought to see it in the entertainment stories of newspapers and websites. They're saying she's a horrible dancer, she can't dance. Brandy got thrown off the show last night, could not believe it. She has been getting tens for the last two to three weeks. But she didn't make it because the public is voting for Bristol Palin. It's not Sarah Palin. They're voting for Bristol Palin, and Sarah's in the audience. The reason they're upset is because they have done their best to make this Palin family persona non grata. They've tried to trash it, besmirch it, impugn it, and the American public is now en masse voting for Bristol Palin. She's in the finals. She's one of three couples that will be in the finals on Monday night. They're fit to be tied. You can read about this in entertainment sections of newspapers on websites today.

I knew it, my friends, I knew it. The hapless Contessa Brewer on MSNBC just now sobbing and whining and moaning about the fact that Bristol Palin was victorious on Dancing with the Stars last night. She's alleging a conspiracy. The hapless Contessa Brewer says that you Tea Party people are jamming the lines of other contestants such as Brandy's so that she can't receive votes, and in this way cheating is occurring. The Tea Party is cheating, sabotaging other contestants. Look, the truth of the matter is the Tea Party, if they're doing anything, are too busy voting for Bristol Palin to tie up anybody else's phone lines. Kathryn and I watched this last night, and I told her, I said, "You wait, it's gonna be all over the news tomorrow, it's gonna have them livid. This is gonna make them ticked off like they can't believe it." And it's happening. Yeah, I watched it, damn right I watched it. Damn right I watched. I even voted. Damn straight I watched it. I've formed an opinion about this show. As a television show, it is brilliantly produced. It's a live television show and it is really well produced.

There are life lessons in this show. Here's Bristol Palin, who is she? She's a single mom, for crying out loud. She did not ask McCain to pick her mother. She's the daughter of Sarah Palin and she had to deal with this publicity hungry jerk Levi, whatever his name is, she's been thrust into this, not something she asked for, she's not whining about it. She's offered this position on this show. She doesn't have the slightest idea how to dance, but she decides to do it. And this show's got 20, 25 million viewers, almost as many listeners as this show has and she's out there doing something she's got no clue how to do. She's subjecting herself to mass humiliation, potentially mass humiliation if she is voted off the first week, if she can't dance, and the judges have not been very complimentary to her. The first night the show's on her mom gets booed by the audience. Yeah, Sarah Palin's in the audience, got booed when her name is mentioned, everybody seems embarrassed about that on the production side of the program. The judges, these people can be brutal. Ask Michael Bolton, he was the first one kicked off. He almost started crying, demanded an apology from one of the judges.

My point here is that she didn't ask for any of this. She accepted the challenge. She's doing it. She's having her world turned upside down. She's willing to put herself out there, and she's in the finals, and the left can't stand it. The left can't stand this, and her mother's TV show on TLC's getting higher ratings than any cable news network show. They can't stand it. And throughout all of this character assassination, throughout every attempt to destroy this family, including having a reporter rent the house next to theirs in Wasilla to do a hit piece, they're laughing, they're smiling, and they're having a good time. They're enjoying life as Alaskans and as Americans. It just ticks them off to no end. And that's what makes it enjoyable.

On top of ruining the future for our children and our grandchildren, nobody wants to hold this president accountable for anything. At least with George Bush even his base was not afraid to call him out from under the carpet when he was wrong about spending.

Doesn’t it seem like much of the population was so content with this “hope and change” president that they voted for him and then decided they didn’t have to watch any more because they got what they wanted. It seems like nobody wants to critique or criticize the direction that we are on because they are too busy defending their vote.

So what? You voted for Barack Obama. Now get your head out of your butt and pay attention to what Obama is doing with your vote. Hold that man accountable and ask questions. Just because he is president doesn’t mean he has the right to run this nation into the ground.

If you gave somebody the keys to your vehicle so they could run an errand and they wrecked your vehicle would you just say to yourself, “oh well?” No! You would want to know who, what, when, where, why and how it all happened. Then you would probably want to know what they were going to do ti fix the problem. Then you might take measures to make sure they did what they said they were going to do. I think you would ask for your keys back too! No?

Health and Human Services MY BUTT!

I can't wait for Barack Obama to be OUT of the White House! His entire administration needs to take a hike! ONE HUNDRED and ELEVEN waivers to all the BIG Honchos!? They give BAILOUTS to all the BIG Honchos!? DISGUSTING! They should have never passed the HC bill if they weren't prepared to understand what was in it!

Gee Whiz! How many small business are going to fold and jobs lost because they couldn’t keep up with the high price of this MANDATED HC plan? They’re not looking out for the little guy. They just want you to be convinced that they’re looking out for the little guy.

How many people will wind up in jail for non compliance because this HC bill was shoved down our throats against our will? What do you think a MANDATE is? What gives the government the right to DICTATE MANDATES against the will of the people?

All the wheeling and dealing going on is ridiculous! And on top of that they have the nerve to try and say that the Bush tax cuts are not good for the country. At least allowing the Bush tax cuts to stick will keep people employed. Since when is having a tax break such a bad thing OR do you think it’s okay for our government to keep raising our taxes just because they feel like it! They have already spent money out the kazoo that they didn’t have to begin with!? Are you gonna just kick back and let the government use and abuse your children and your grandchildren? They are the ones that will be stuck with this mess and where will their freedom be?

This administration is so whack if I had a business during times like this I would be operating it as conservatively as possible with the minimum amount of expenses as possible. Didn't Barack Obama take business 101 when he was in college? Donald Trump would do better as the President! Uh Hello!?

This really pisses me off and what pisses me off even more are people trying to deny the BS because defending their vote for Barack Obama is more important.

They need to tear this HC bill apart, keep the good, and get rid of the bad! This is just ridiculous and a HUGE wrong to MANDATE it.

Let’s be clear about something

Last night was NOT a Republican Victory. If you don’t understand THAT then you’re missing the point and you haven’t been paying attention. I don’t feel extraordinarily victorious. I think it’s because I don’t view last night as a victory. I will be praying that all of Washington get their acts together.

Harry Reid gets to keep his seat by the hair of his chinny chin chin. Barbara Boxer and Barney Frank too. Some good things happened last night. We no longer have to put up with Nancy Pelosi or Alan Grayson and really those that are left are hanging on by a thread. Republicans are hanging on by a thread too. This isn't a victory for them at all. They are not off the hook and Barack Obama better get his head out of his you-know-what and stop messing around.

It's not about (R) and (D). The American people are pissed. They are pissed off at the direction of this country and they are tired of all the excuses. At some point in time people have to unite and put their foot down and remind these politicians that we're not going to put up with the nonsense spewing from either side. Believe it or not both sides suck and that's why we have to make sure these butt heads in Washington stop all the wheeling and dealing. People have really had enough of the entire BS. Look at where we are at as a country!

The Hot Topic Of Abortion


Jeff Geering gets all the credit for this photo. I don’t remember where I found it on the net - just that it has had a great impact on my life. I have kept it on my computer since the last presidential election.

I have a lot of admiration for the woman that holds up the sign “My Abortion Hurt Me.” Can you even begin to imagine how hard that must have been for her to hold up a sign that pretty much tells the entire world that she has had an abortion and that she admits to the whole entire world that her abortion hurt her?

What I can’t help but wonder is the “how” she was hurt by her abortion part. I also wonder sometimes how much Love, Compassion, and Patience that we have as Christians towards women that have had abortions OR are contemplating having an abortion?

NPR Fired Juan Williams


I heard about NPR firing Juan Williams:

Williams, a Fox News contributor and 10-year NPR veteran, was fired from the popular public radio syndicate for making comments on "The O'Reilly Factor" about what he describes as his "visceral reaction" to airplane passengers in "Muslim garb." "I get worried. I get nervous," he said.

I can't believe this man was fired because he was honest about what he feels when he sees Muslims dressed in Muslim gear.

I am offended when I see a Muslim woman covered up. There is a lady that lives in my neighborhood that attends all the elementary school functions dressed from head to toe this way. It's disturbing to me, it worries me, and I too get nervous when I see this.

Life Forever Changed


On 9/11 I was in college. I went to chapel, and that is where I found out about what happened. After college, I lived on Long Island. I had a student whose dad had been in the first tower when hit, but he did get out. However, his life has been forever changed. I did not know anyone personally who died that day, but I saw how it affected so many. I can't imagine the pain family and friends have had to endure.

We haven't talked to anyone at the school yet. Don is in Utah at the moment and he wanted to handle this one. So I will keep you guys posted and let you know what happens if there is really anything to report back on.

I want to thank all of my facebook friends for chiming in with all of your points of view. One thing that remains in my mind is that it's just a birthday celebration. It's not a regular meal. It's not an everyday snack.

When I look back on my elementary school days it's the celebrations that I can remember the most. Why? Because that's what was fun as a kid. The holidays, the celebrations, etc. School has become so complicated that they are now sending home worksheets requesting that we fill in the days that our kids have exercised. They are kids. They play outside. There job is to play, run, and have fun. They have turned this into a huge chore.

I don't know. I got a newsletter from the PTA the other day. It came home the same time that the Birthday Treat sheet came home. On it was a parenting quote from Jesse Jackson. Jesse Jackson? Seriously? He is the epitome and ultimate example of parenting? Why on earth is the PTA sending home Jesse Jackson parenting quotes? Why are they even sending home parenting advice at all?

I don't know. Our society today has dipped just a little bit too far into my home and I don't like it. Anyway, that's where I'm at. Thanks for your input and for not being shy to speak up. If we forget how to do that even on the "little" things boy are we in trouble. Think of how much turmoil could have been prevented in the world if we would have paid better attention to the little things.

I don't know what the answer is because on the flip side we have our priorities all messed up. Look at what the Senate accomplished yesterday. They managed to sign a bill that turns down the volume of television commercials. Go Figure!?

Article I Section 7


All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the Objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such Reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the Bill, it shall be sent, together with the Objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a Law. But in all such Cases the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons voting for and against the Bill Shall be entered on the Journal of each House respectively. If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten Days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the Same shall be a Law, in like Manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their Adjournment prevent its Return, in which Case it shall not be a Law.

I was reading Dr. Laura's Blog today. She wrote a post titled: Fatwa Issued Against Seattle Cartoonist

She has been told to “go ghost,” meaning moving, changing her name, and wiping away her identity. Her life, as she knows it, is gone, or her life will literally be gone. Our government is not going to protect her; she’s out on her own, a target of religious bigotry and tyranny.

I call on all Muslims around the world to crack down on Muslims killing Muslims, and Muslims killing infidels. This is not civilized and cannot be negotiated with. Only other Muslims can force their brethren to value free speech and opposing opinions, even objectionable ones…especially objectionable ones.

The Tea Party



The Tea Party movement is not a top-down operation. It's a ground-up call to action that is forcing both parties to change the way that they're doing business and that's beautiful.

The Soul of this movement is the People. Every day Americans who grow our food, and run our small businesses, teach our kids and fight our wars. They're folks in small towns and cities across this great nation who saw what was happening and they got involved.

It is just so inspiring to see real people, not politicos, not inside the beltway professionals. Come out and stand up and speak out for common sense conservative principles.

Who can argue a movement that is about the people government is supposed to be working for the people. That is what this movement is about. This party that we call the Tea Party is the future of politics and I am proud to get to be here today.

Hatred from the Pulpit is Wrong

I have a problem with all the hatred going on in this election; I would like to ask you all a question. What is the difference in a minister spewing hatred of the whites from the pulpit, or the KKK in front of a burning cross? It is all evil and those teaching such hatred should not be applauded especially in our churches where our children are being brainwashed. Slavery was well over 100 years ago; lets make our world a better place. Some of my grandparents came from Ireland, and other were Cherokee they also suffered hardships but I never heard them talking with such hatred. How can our country ever heal if we do not learn to forgive our past?

I agree with Gayla on this one. I’m shocked that people going to church to worship God would subscribe to any preacher teaching to hate OR mock in the way that some churches do.

As somebody who’s blog was watched by a white supremacist group here in Omaha it was just a tad bit frustrating to think that they expected me to hate right along-side with them just because I was white.

I don’t know why people do not forgive more these days. Even if you can’t have a personal relationship with the people that hate you OR your ideas, you can still pray for them and forgive them.

The other thing is maybe large quantities of groups can’t forgive the past because they were brought up OR brain washed to hate. That is certainly something else we can pray about and I guess no matter how hard it is to do sometimes.. we can set the example.

I know there are times when I feel as though I have done all I can do short of washing the feet of my enemies. Most people know that what they are doing is wrong and they may not ever come out of that type of sickness. All we can do is continue acknowledge that hate, recognize it and admit to it instead of sweeping it under the rug, and pray over it.

I know if it had been my pastor that had spoke like the ones at Obama’s church for so many years.. I would have never let it get to 20-something years of knowing these people hate the way that they do. I would get up and take my family out of there and find a church that is truly bible-based.

Hillary Rodham Obama Ticket?

WASHINGTON (AP) Hillary Rodham Clinton has told congressional colleagues she would be open to becoming Barack Obama’s vice presidential nominee, saying she would consider it if it would help Democrats win the White House. Clinton, a New York senator, made the comment on a conference call with other New York lawmakers Tuesday, according a participant on the call.

If that’s the case then you can certainly bet that I will be voting for John McCain. I will be voting for John McCain even if it’s just Obama with a no-name for the VP spot. The only person that had an inkling of a chance to beat John McCain is Hillary Rodham Clinton.

It will be interesting to see if she concedes the Democratic Nomination since mathematically Obama is ahead. Will she do it before OR during Democratic Convention?

Obama's Church Disappeared


Obama threw his church under the bus and it vanished into thin air. I can’t find it any more. Well, maybe that’s what Obama wants us to think but I’m not buying it.

The only reason he and his family have left the church is because the relationship has helped the American people to connect the dots as to the company Obama keeps.

If Obama continued to attend church OR to admit that is his church home then all of a sudden he gets to be held accountable for the company that he keeps. Come on, we’re not THAT stupid.

You mean to tell me that after 20 years and a couple of baptisms later he now knows what horrible things the pastors of that church have been teaching?

If it really didn’t matter in the first place then why would he throw the church under the bus? If it was a non-issue then he would have never had to leave the church in the first place. The thing is, it really does matter what has been spewed from the pulpit. So much so that he knows if he doesn’t leave OR do something drastic to denounce what’s been preached he could lose the Democratic nomination OR worse, nobody will vote for him when he wins the party nomination.

I hope Hillary Clinton pulls it off and no I do NOT see her working side-by-side with Obama.

Article I Section 3


The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, [chosen by the Legislature thereof,](2) for sex Years; and each Senator shall have one Vote.

Immediately after they shall be assembled in Consequence of the first Election, they shall be divided as equally as may be into three Classes. The Seats of the Senators of the first Class shall be vacated at the Expiration of the second Year, of the second Class at the Expiration of the fourth Year, and of the third Class at the Expiration of the sixth Year, so that one third may be chosen every second Year; [and if Vacancies happen by Resignation, or otherwise, during the Recess of the Legislature of any State, the Executive thereof may make temporary Appointments until the next Meeting of the Legislature, which shall then fill such Vacancies.](3)

No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.

The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.

The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a President pro tempore, in the Absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the Office of the President of the United States.

The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be an Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to the Law.

The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the State Legislature.

No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.

Five score years ago, a great American in whose symbolic shadow we stand today signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, [Applause] the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we've come here today to dramatize the shameful condition.

In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note in so far as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds." [Applause]

But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. So we have come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice. [Applause]

We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. [Applause]

Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation, to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time [Applause] to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time [Applause] to make justice a reality for all of God's children. It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment, this sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. Those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. [Applause]

There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

But there is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. [Applause]

We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force. The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny [Applause] and they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone.

And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back. There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. [Applause] We cannot be satisfied as long as the Negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children our stripped of their self-hood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating, "for whites only." [Applause] We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream. [Applause]

I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. Some of you have come from areas where your quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive.

Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Caroline, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed. Let us not wallow in the valley of despair.

I say to you today my friend, [Applause] so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." [Applause]

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today. [Applause]

I have a dream that one day down in Alabama, with it's vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, one day right now in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together. This is our hope. This is the faith that I go back to the south with. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day. And if America is to be a great nation this must become true. So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania! Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado! Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California! But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia! Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee! Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring. Black Conservatives Blast Al Sharpton Protesters



The Runaway Slave movie crews were at Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor Rally" and at Al Sharpton's "Reclaiming the Dream March" on Aug 28th. As the two ideologies clashed in DC, our movie crews were on the scene. In this raw footage, shot near the future MLK memorial site, Black Conservatives leaving the "Restoring Honor" rally encounter Sharpton's protesters who were holding signs claiming "Tea Party Racism." This is just one of debates that we captured after the rally had ended.
